UNDERSTANDING PATTERN CUTTING. During this absolute beginners course you will practice traditional pattern cutting techniques whilst being introduced to basic garment construction. You will start by deconstructing a garment of your choice to assess how it has been made. You will take a pattern from this garment, learn how to label and lay your pattern on fabric and test it by making it up in calico. You will be introduced to fashion design development, creating a new design from your original garment, a new pattern and a finished sample. You will be introduced to the language and tools of the cutting room, use both full-scale and half-scale pattern cutting blocks to practice basic pattern cutting exercises such as dart manipulation, learn how to create fullness for gathers pleats and tucks and explore different types of seams and fastenings. By the end of this course you will have developed a thorough understanding of the pattern cutting and garment construction process. If you are studying or working in textile design you will be shown how to adapt these skills to produce garment shapes for your textile design collections. If you are already able to make clothes you may wish to enrol on:
Creating Garement Patterns For The Fashion Industry.
