TEXTILE DESIGN RESEARCH IN BALI. By the end of 2007 Rowena Luke-king is hoping to have taken her first group of students on a holiday study trip to Bali.
The trip will focus on introducing students to the people, culture and textiles of Bali, whilst they create a sketchpad of ideas for fashion textile design. There will be a chance to see Balinese temple dancing, explore the shops, wholesale outlets and traditional Balinese markets and spend a little time on the beach between visits to garment factories, silk-screen printers, dyers, weavers, bead and batik workers. There will be group discussions and individual tutorials to assess each persons design research, relate it to trend information and format ideas for decorative fashion fabrics.
