RAG-RUG BAGS. During this two-day workshop you will learn how to make a simple box style Tote Bag. You will learn how to lightly stiffen and line your bag, make facings, attach fabric strap handles and put in a zip or magnet fastener. For a different look, you will be shown how to make draw string tops to turn your Tote Bag into a Dorothy Bag, covering piping cord for the strap and making a rouleau to tie it closed. Using strips of recycled cloth and fabric flowers you will experiment with rug making techniques that can be adapted for bag decoration and by the end of this course you will have completed at least one finished rag-rug bag and have ideas for many more. No previous experience is needed for this course which will introduce you to basic sewing skills. If you would prefer to, you may make a small rag-rug rather than a bag. No previous experience is needed for this course.
