WORKING IN FASHION AND TEXTILES. This one-day workshop for schools will introduce pupils to a variety of employment opportunities in fashion and textiles, whilst giving them a chance to practice some simple fashion design techniques. Using samples of her own work and drawing on a wide range of experiences within the world of fashion and textile design, Rowena Luke-King will show how designers research, develop and market their ideas. She will talk about how fashion trends evolve, the people who decide what colours, fabrics and styles are available for us to buy, designer fashion and image consultancy, mass-market fashion and the various processes involved in producing the garments and accessories that we choose to wear. Through a series of drawing exercises pupils will learn how to use a fashion template to illustrate their garment ideas. They will learn how to personalise a fashion template and draw details such as gathers, buttons and collars. They will experiment with applying colour and complete the workshop by producing a collection of finished designs for a celebrity makeover.
Price: £225.00 including handouts, specialist equipment and materials. Travelling expenses will be charged to schools outside the Brighton & Hove area.
