KNITTED BAGS AND SCARVES. This two-day weekend workshop will introduce you to the basic principles of hand-knitting whilst you start to knit yourself a 'Dr Who Scarf' that can be as long as you want it to be. Using large needles and chunky wool you will learn to cast on your first row of stitches and knit several rows of garter stitch (plain) before being introduced to stocking stitch (one row plain, one row pearl). You will learn how join in different colours to make stripes, cast off when you get to the end of your scarf, make tassels, learn to use a knitting pattern and practice more complicated stitches such as moss stitch, star stitch and rib. Should you wish to turn your peice of knitting into a bag, you will be shown how to darn the sides together, knit and attach a strap, line your bag and sew in a zip. No previous experience is needed for this course which is perfect for those who wish to give up smoking.
