FASHION AND TEXTILE DESIGN will introduce you to pattern cutting and fashion design whilst you continue to work on a textile design collection for the fashion industry. Focusing on different garments such as tops, skirts and trousers, you will use half-scale pattern cutting blocks to practice creating new styles by introducing gathers, pleats, yolks, pockets, sleeves and collars. You will learn how to adapt these skills for textile design, producing patterns for flat garment shapes to use when creating groups of designs between lessons. You will be shown how to use fashion templates to sketch and develop your garment ideas and learn how to present these ideas on story boards as illustrations of the fabrics that you have created. Throughout the course we will continue to experiment with new techniques, investigate trends and work closely to a textile design agents brief. However if you would prefer to focus more on pattern cutting than textile design in your own time, you will be encouraged to do so.
