ACCESSORY DESIGN is taught as an extension of Pattern Cutting and Textile Design but can be studied independently of these two subjects. Whether producing a collection of fabric bags, shoes, hats and belts or a portfolio of work for college application, the emphasis will be on combining trends in accessory design with traditional crafts including knit, crochet, felt-making, macramé and rag-weaving. You will learn how to draft patterns for fabric bags, shoes, hats and belts, alter these patterns to create a selection of new styles and make calico toils to resolve any unforeseen production problems before completing your finished samples. You will look at how to price and market your accessory collection and/or mount your ideas as part of a portfolio presentation. Please note that we will not be working on heavily structured or leather pieces.
